India Spam Ranking: What types of spam calls are most prevalent in India?
According to the report, telemarketing and sales calls account for the largest share of incoming spam calls in India. In the country, sales and telemarketing calls constitute 36 percent of the total, followed by financial service calls at 18 percent, while scam and fraud calls make up the remaining 12 percent. This implies that people are most troubled by calls related to loans, credit cards, insurance, and promotional offers.
Rising Fraud Networks Worldwide
The report reveals that in 2025, Truecaller identified over 68 billion spam and fraud calls globally. In many countries, incidents such as banking fraud, fake loan offers, and identity theft are also on the rise. In light of this, Truecaller CEO Rishit Jhunjhunwala stated that spam and fraud calls are now seriously impacting people's daily lives. He noted that in many nations, the majority of unknown calls turn out to be spam, posing a significant threat to communication systems.
Why is the Threat of Spam Calls Increasing?
According to experts, factors such as data leaks, online forms, and fraudulent apps are making it easier for marketing companies and scammers to access people's phone numbers. AI-based fraud calls and voice cloning technologies have also heightened this threat. Meanwhile, by March 2026, Truecaller had surpassed the milestone of 500 million (50 crore) monthly active users worldwide, with over 150 million of these users located outside of India. The company aims to block fraudulent calls in 2026 before they even reach users.
