Reliance Jio, the country's largest telecom company, may soon deliver another blow to its users. According to reports, the company is set to increase the prices of its recharge plans. It is claimed that the company may revise its plans in the near future, leading to higher costs for customers—with a potential price hike of around 12%. This news comes at a time when the company is fully prepared to launch its IPO. The IPO will open on October 21 and close on October 23, with 270 million (27 crore) new shares being issued.

Reports suggest that the company may implement a tariff hike to boost its ARPU (Average Revenue Per User)—a metric that indicates the average monthly revenue generated per active subscriber. In the first quarter of the 2027 fiscal year (April–June 2026), Jio’s ARPU rose to ₹215.6, up from ₹208.8 during the same period the previous year.

Subscriber base exceeds 533 million (53.3 crore)
Jio’s subscriber base has now surpassed 533 million. On average, each user is consuming 43.7 GB of data per month—an increase from the previous 37 GB. Additionally, the number of Jio 5G users has grown to 285 million (28.5 crore), while the number of home broadband (JioAirFiber) subscribers has crossed 28 million (2.8 crore). However, a tariff hike could potentially slow down the company's user growth; in the past, similar price increases led some users to port their SIM cards to other providers.

Jio Prime: Protection Against Tariff Hikes
To shield its customers from the impact of potential tariff hikes, Jio has introduced an updated version of its industry-first 'Jio Prime' plan. According to the company, opting for this plan allows users to avoid the burden of higher recharge costs for one year. Both Jio prepaid and postpaid customers can secure a one-year Jio Prime membership by paying a one-time fee of ₹300.

For the entire year following the date of purchase, mobile recharge prices will remain completely stable for these customers. Jio has guaranteed that any tariff increases implemented by the company—up until September 5, 2027—will not affect Jio Prime members; they will continue to be able to recharge at the existing, lower rates. Additionally, those who sign up for Jio Prime will receive a ₹300 cashback voucher, which can be used for a new Jio Home Broadband (JioHome) or JioPC connection. A similar ₹300 cashback voucher is also available when obtaining a new Jio SIM connection for a family member or friend. You can purchase this membership via the MyJio app, the official Jio website, or by visiting a nearby Jio Store or partner retail outlet.
