Now, a recent study has revealed some surprising findings. The study states that whether it is Google's Gemini, Anthropic's Claude, or Meta's Llama—despite being distinct entities—they all tend to think alike. When tasked with creative assignments, they consistently rely on the same types of concepts to proceed. This poses a growing threat to user creativity.
What Are the Limitations of AI Chatbots?
A study published in *Engineering Applications of Artificial Intelligence* indicates that the various models developed by major companies tend to think in a uniform manner. While the responses generated by each model may appear distinct and useful at first glance, a closer examination reveals a different underlying pattern. For the majority of prompts, these models generate responses that are strikingly similar to one another. As part of the study, researchers administered a series of creative tests to both human participants and AI models. The results demonstrated that, compared to the AI models, the range of ideas generated by the human participants was significantly broader.
Over 20 AI Models Put to the Test
In the study, researchers tested more than 20 different AI models from various companies against a group of 100 human participants. The range of responses generated by the AI models was found to be narrower than that of the human-generated ideas. When analyzing the similarities between responses, a high degree of uniformity was observed in the AI models' answers, whereas the responses provided by the humans were far more diverse. This consistent pattern—characterized by a lack of variety—was observed not only in the responses themselves but also in the execution of the assigned tasks. The AI models were utilizing identical structures and repetitive phrasing. When the AI systems were prompted to exercise creativity, the results shifted slightly, yet they still fell short of matching human standards.
