As the digital age continues to grow in the country, the government is working to address the challenges associated with it. Making payments through UPI has become a part of our lives today. To further simplify this system, the Reserve Bank of India has launched several apps and systems that will simplify the payment interface, allowing you to make payments from smartwatches and cars. As technology advances, so too do its risks. At the same time, people are being defrauded through fake screenshots and phishing. Let's share with experts how to address the challenges of cyber fraud.

Since the advent of technology, cybercriminals have increasingly targeted senior citizens. We spoke to Mukesh Pandey, founder of RupeePaisa.com, and Kanishk Gaur, president of the India Future Foundation, about this issue. Experts say that to avoid online fraud, first, if you receive a call from an unknown number stating that your KYC needs to be done, or that your bank account is being closed, or if a link is sent to you, do not click on it.

If you have a card, do not share its CVV or PIN with anyone. Secondly, enable multi-factor authentication for your digital payments, ensuring you do not have only OTP-based authentication. Never hand your phone over to an unknown person. Phone forwarding is often used to transfer OTPs and PINs from one account to another.

Keep Bluetooth Devices Off
Kanishka Gaur advised that you should keep your phone's Bluetooth devices off in public places. He added that sometimes, people try to get your phone's details by bringing a machine near your phone. Therefore, keep your phone's Wi-Fi or Bluetooth off in public places.

Fake Screenshot Fraud
These days, scammers send fake screenshots to scam people. Experts point out that this is readily available online, and there's no need to spend any money. First, fraudsters transfer ₹1 or ₹2 into an account to obtain a UPI ID. They then ask them to verify the details. "This much money has been transferred to your account." Once the money has arrived, they receive the details of the transfer, indicating the amount. They then manipulate the transfer further, pretending to make a large transaction and claiming the money has been withdrawn from their account, and you then make the payment.

According to experts, if the money hasn't yet been credited to your account and you see a screenshot, you shouldn't make the payment. This is because UPI never assumes that the payment has been made from another source, and it doesn't take long. In UPI, the payment is transferred immediately. If a payment is on hold or stuck, you should never proceed with a further transaction based on it.

Fraud via QR Codes
Furthermore, fraud are also occurring in the market through QR codes. QR codes are replaced, replaced with a different QR code, and when you go there to check, you find that it's not the QR code. QR codes outside shops are also replaced, and sometimes the numbers associated with their names are changed. To avoid this, it's crucial to physically visit the store and verify that the QR code or number is the same and not someone else's.
