Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari announced the new 'One Tag' facility at the "Global Fintech Fest 2026." Under this system, if you wish to switch banks, you will not need to remove the old FASTag from your vehicle's windshield or purchase a new tag. Your tag remains the same; only your issuing bank changes.

**How ​​will your FASTag be ported? ****
The process of switching banks is digital and extremely simple. This facility to port a FASTag from one bank to another will be available via the 'Rajmarg Yatra App.' Users can easily select their preferred FASTag service provider bank using this app.

**Benefit for 13 crore users**
The reach of digital toll collection in India has expanded significantly. According to government data, approximately 98% of toll collection on national highways is now done digitally (via FASTag). So far, around 13 crore FASTags have been issued in the country. The government has introduced this facility specifically to address the inconveniences faced by this vast user base.

**Will a new FASTag sticker be required?**
It is worth noting that the most significant change brought by the 'One Tag' system is the elimination of the previous hassle: until now, if a customer wanted to change their FASTag-issuing bank, they had to close their old FASTag account, register afresh with a new bank, and affix a new physical sticker to their vehicle. 'One Tag' removes this entire complication. Now, you can transfer your existing FASTag to another bank while retaining the same tag ID and vehicle number. 

Preparing for AI and Barrier-Free Tolling
The government's vision extends beyond merely enabling FASTag portability; plans are underway to completely eliminate queues at toll plazas in the future. Through AI technology and barrier-free tolling, a system is being developed where vehicles will not need to stop at toll points at all. Vehicles will proceed without stopping, and toll payments will be processed automatically. Although the government has not yet announced a date for this transition, its implementation will benefit millions of people.
