WhatsApp Spam Calls: Nowadays, spam calls on WhatsApp are on the rise. Scammers are now targeting people by calling from international and unknown numbers. Often, these individuals attempt to commit fraud by posing as bank employees, delivery agents, or customer care representatives. In such situations, a specific WhatsApp setting can be of great assistance, offering relief from unwanted calls without requiring you to block any specific number.

What Is This Special WhatsApp Setting?

WhatsApp features a built-in tool called "Silence Unknown Callers." Once enabled, this feature automatically silences voice and video calls received from numbers you have not saved or with which you have never previously interacted.

This does not mean that the call will be completely blocked. The call will still appear in your phone's notifications and within your WhatsApp Call History, but your phone will not ring. This provides significant relief from the constant disturbance of unwanted calls.

How to Enable This Setting?

Activating this feature is extremely simple and takes less than a minute. First, open WhatsApp. Next, navigate to Settings. Then, select the "Privacy" option and tap on the "Calls" section. Here, you will find the "Silence Unknown Callers" option, which you need to toggle on. On Android phones, the "Settings" option is located within the three-dot menu at the top right corner of the screen, whereas on iPhones, it appears at the bottom of the screen.

The Biggest Advantage of This Feature

The unique aspect of this setting is that it does not completely block any specific number. If an important contact happens to call you from a new number, you can check your "Missed Calls" list later and decide whether or not to call them back. In other words, this also minimizes the risk of missing important calls. However, there is a slight limitation here.

If you have previously messaged or conversed with an unsaved number, WhatsApp will not classify it as "Unknown." Consequently, the next incoming call from that number may ring as usual. This issue is particularly likely to arise with delivery agents, temporary office numbers, or one-time contacts.

Why is this feature important?

If you are frequently annoyed by recurring WhatsApp calls while working, during meetings, or late at night, this privacy feature can prove to be extremely useful. While it may not completely eliminate spam calls, it certainly ensures that you have control over who can—and cannot—disturb your peace.
