Facebook users should change these settings immediately; otherwise, their accounts could be hacked at any time!
Facebook Tips: Go to Facebook's 'Password and Security' settings and check the 'Where You're Logged In' section.
Social media platforms have become extremely popular. From Facebook to Instagram, most people today are active on social media. However, it is often observed that user errors can lead to accounts being hacked or privacy being compromised. While Facebook is a widely used platform, you can secure your account by adjusting a few settings.
Navigate to the 'Password and Security' settings on Facebook and look at the 'Where You're Logged In' section. Here, you will see a list of all the devices where your account is currently logged in. If you spot an unfamiliar device, log out of it immediately. Additionally, you should periodically review the third-party apps and websites to which you have granted access via Facebook.
Furthermore, many people use the same password across different websites and apps, which can prove to be a major mistake. Experts advise creating a long, strong, and unique password specifically for Facebook. Be sure to include a mix of uppercase and lowercase letters, numbers, and special characters. Also, change your password regularly.
Instead of keeping information like your posts, friend list, mobile number, and email address set to 'Public,' change the setting to 'Friends' or 'Only Me.' This limits the reach of your personal information and makes it difficult for cybercriminals to gather details about you.
If you haven't enabled Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) on Facebook yet, do so immediately. This feature provides an extra layer of security beyond just your password. Whenever someone attempts to log into your account from a new device, they will be required to enter a verification code obtained from your phone or an authenticator app. Consequently, once this feature is enabled, no one will be able to access your account using only the password.
It is also worth noting that Facebook's 'Login Alerts' feature notifies you about every new login. In such a scenario, it is advisable to keep this feature enabled. If you do so, you will receive an immediate notification or email should an unknown person attempt to log in to your account. This allows you to change your password in time and secure your account.
