Under this new feature, users can verify their accounts for free by simply recording a short selfie video. **Verification via Selfie Video**

Facebook's new Verified Badge differs from traditional verification badges typically associated with celebrities, public figures, or paid subscriptions. In this new system, eligible users must record a short selfie video. Facebook then compares this video with the photos already on the profile to confirm that the account belongs to a real person. According to the company, the entire process is free and usually takes just a few minutes to complete.

**Eligibility for the Feature**

To obtain the Facebook Verified Badge, users must be at least 18 years old and maintain a good account standing. Accounts with a history of fraud, scams, or other deceptive activities will not be eligible for this feature. Currently, this feature is not available for Facebook Pages or profiles using Professional Mode.

**Where Will the Verified Badge Appear?**

Once verification is complete, the badge will appear in areas where verifying a person's identity is particularly important. This includes Facebook profiles, Marketplace listings, Dating profiles, and Facebook Groups. The company has also stated that the badge will appear on Feed posts in the future.

Users need to complete the verification process only once. Afterward, the badge will automatically appear across all supported sections of Facebook without any subscription fee. For instance, if a user is viewing a product listing on Marketplace, connecting with someone new on Dating, or participating in a Group discussion, they will be able to easily determine whether the other account belongs to a real person. Facebook has clarified that the Verified Badge simply indicates the account belongs to a real person. It does not imply that the company vouches for that individual's behavior or endorses all their actions.

Verified accounts must also adhere to Facebook’s Community Standards and Commerce Policies. Even if an account belongs to a real person, action can be taken against them if they violate the platform's rules. The company stated that the Facebook Verified Badge signifies the profile belongs to a genuine individual who has completed selfie verification and meets trust and safety standards.

Gradual Rollout

Facebook is currently rolling out this feature in select countries in a phased manner. It will be made available in other countries in the future.
