EPFO: Managing tasks related to Provident Fund (PF) accounts is set to become easier than ever for millions of employees. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to launch two significant initiatives for the convenience of its millions of members. Under the first initiative, members will be able to access PF-related services directly via WhatsApp. The second major initiative concerns old, long-dormant accounts; any such inactive account with a balance of up to ₹1,000 will be settled automatically.

The organisation’s 74th Foundation Day will be celebrated in New Delhi on Sunday, November 1, 2026. According to information released by the Press Information Bureau (PIB), the Union Minister for Labour and Employment, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, will inaugurate this special event. Both of these new facilities for millions of PF members are set to be launched during this event. The organisation’s primary focus is to ensure that members can access PF services with ease and that the settlement of small, long-dormant accounts can be completed without any hassle.

Automatic settlement of small PF accounts
Often, after changing jobs, individuals either forget about small balances left in their old PF accounts or avoid withdrawing them due to the lengthy, cumbersome process involved. Under current rules, members are required to go through a full, separate settlement procedure to withdraw funds from such dormant accounts.

The new EPFO initiative will provide significant relief to eligible members who have small balances—up to ₹1,000—in their long-dormant accounts. These accounts will now be settled automatically. The primary objective of this new system is to simplify the process. Once implemented, eligible members will no longer need to navigate lengthy, paper-intensive procedures to withdraw their small balances or close these accounts. However, the PIB press release does not yet clarify the full eligibility criteria for this facility. Furthermore, the date from which this automatic settlement process will commence has not yet been announced.

**WhatsApp to Simplify Access to PF Services**
In this digital era, the organization is turning to WhatsApp to enhance communication with its members. Once this facility is launched, PF account holders will have a new and convenient way to access services, making EPFO’s offerings significantly more accessible than before.

WhatsApp will serve as a direct channel for members to obtain information related to their PF accounts. That said, the organization has not yet specified exactly which services will be available via WhatsApp, nor has it released the full details regarding the procedure members should follow to utilize these services.

**Recognition for High-Performing Employees**
The Foundation Day event in New Delhi will not only feature the announcement of new facilities but will also honor those who have demonstrated exceptional performance. The 'Provident Fund Awards 2026' will be presented during the event. Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya will recognize top-performing regional and zonal offices, as well as outstanding officers and staff members.

Additionally, the Union Minister will visit the exhibition stalls set up at the venue. Several special publications will also be unveiled, covering key topics such as knowledge creation, institutional learning, responsive administration, and legal awareness. Overall, these new initiatives by the EPFO are set to make accessing PF services much easier for millions of account holders. People are now awaiting the official release of detailed procedures and terms and conditions for both of these initiatives.
