If you have a PF account and frequently have to open the EPFO website or app to check your balance or claim status, this task could soon become much easier. The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) is preparing to launch several services for its members via WhatsApp. Through this initiative, members will be able to access information such as PF balance, passbook details, recent transactions, and claim status directly from their mobile phones. Currently, the service is undergoing testing, and an official date for its nationwide rollout has not yet been announced.

EPFO is also implementing several other changes to streamline its online services. These include the facility to withdraw PF funds via UPI, the automatic transfer of PF accounts upon changing jobs, and raising the auto-settlement limit to expedite the processing of smaller claims. EPFO's objective is to provide fast and convenient services to members with minimal paperwork.

How will the EPFO WhatsApp service work?
Once the new WhatsApp service is launched, members will be able to initiate a conversation by sending 'Hello' to EPFO's verified WhatsApp number. They will then be presented with options for various services, such as checking PF balance, viewing recent transaction details, checking claim status, and accessing the EPF passbook.

Additionally, users can expect assistance with Aadhaar-linked authentication and updates related to Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). The service is also likely to be made available in regional languages to ensure ease of use for a wider audience. However, the service is currently in the testing phase, and a nationwide launch is awaited.
More PF-related changes are on the way

EPFO's initiatives go beyond just the WhatsApp service; the organization is working to digitize and accelerate various PF-related processes. These include the facility to withdraw PF funds via UPI. Furthermore, the auto-settlement limit is being increased to facilitate the quick approval of smaller, straightforward claims.

A major convenience is also in the pipeline for employees who switch jobs. A new service is set to simplify the process of automatically transferring PF accounts when changing jobs. Additionally, a centralized database is being created to help consolidate records and reduce service delays.

**Easier PF Advance Withdrawals Under New Rules**
The new EPFO rules set specific limits for PF advance withdrawals based on various needs. For medical reasons, members can withdraw advances for their own or a family member's treatment without any restriction on the number of times this can be done.
For educational purposes, members can withdraw advances up to 10 times for their own or a family member's studies. Up to five withdrawals are permitted for marriage-related expenses. Similarly, advances can be taken up to five times for purposes such as buying a house, constructing a home, repaying a home loan, or home repairs.

**Access to PF Funds When Needed**
The new rules also provide for PF advances under specific circumstances. In such cases, members can withdraw advances up to twice in a financial year. In certain instances, members may withdraw up to 75% of their PF balance, subject to relevant rules and eligibility criteria. With information available via WhatsApp, members will no longer need to rely on the website or visit the office for every minor detail.
