EPFO is now live on WhatsApp; send a 'Hi' to get a reply, and access services including PF balance checks..
EPFO Services on WhatsApp: The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has provided significant relief to its millions of members. Employees can now check their PF balance from the comfort of their homes via WhatsApp. Additionally, they can view their PF passbook details and the last five transactions made in their accounts. Furthermore, the settlement of funds in certain long-dormant PF accounts will now be processed automatically. The EPFO has introduced these new features to simplify its digital services. Let’s explore how you can benefit from them...
Essential PF-related services available on WhatsApp
Through the EPFO’s new WhatsApp service, you can access various important details regarding your PF account. This includes checking your PF balance, viewing your EPF passbook, and reviewing the last five transactions in your account. Moreover, WhatsApp can assist with requirements related to the 'Pradhan Mantri Viksit Bharat Rozgar Yojana' (PMVBRY). Members whose tasks under this scheme are pending due to incomplete Aadhaar verification or other documentation issues will also receive personalized guidance.
How to use the WhatsApp service?
The EPFO has designated this as a verified WhatsApp service. Here is how you can get started: send the message "Hi" to the official EPFO number, +918796441800. You will then be prompted to select your preferred language (such as Hindi, English, or others). Afterward, simply choose the specific service you wish to inquire about—for example, checking your PF balance or viewing recent transactions—and the requested details will be provided to you.
Please note that this service is available only through the official EPFO website or via the verified number/QR code provided through official channels. Do not share your UAN password, OTP, Aadhaar details, or bank-related information with any unknown numbers. Funds in Inoperative PF Accounts to be Credited Automatically
The EPFO has introduced a new facility for inoperative PF accounts—those that have remained inactive for a long period. Under this initiative, accounts with a balance of up to ₹1,000 will be settled automatically; eligible members will not need to file a separate claim.
However, this process will involve thorough verification of Aadhaar details, bank information, and other essential requirements. Once verified, the funds will be transferred to the account of the rightful holder or beneficiary. According to the ministry, this initiative is expected to benefit approximately one lakh accounts, which collectively hold about ₹5 crore.
Benefit for 8 Crore Members and 85 Lakh Pensioners
The EPFO serves approximately 8 crore contributing members and 85.5 lakh (8.55 million) pensioners. The organization manages a retirement fund of about ₹32 lakh crore. According to the EPFO, the average time taken for claim settlement has decreased to 2.57 days as of October 2026. With the new WhatsApp service and the auto-settlement facility, members will have less need to visit offices in person for PF-related matters.
