IT giant Cognizant is now preparing to monitor employees' digital activities more closely. To do this, the company will use a workforce productivity tool called ProHance, which will track every click and movement on laptops.

An idle tag will be applied if the laptop is idle for 5 minutes.
Under the new policy, an employee will be marked "idle" if there is no mouse or keyboard activity for 300 seconds, or five minutes. If the laptop remains idle for 15 minutes, the status will change to "Away from System." These changes have been gradually implemented for employees over the past month.

In light of questions raised about monitoring, the company has clarified that this data will not be used for performance evaluation. According to a Cognizant spokesperson, this system is intended to understand client processes and detect activity, not to rate employees.

The company states that tracking will only occur if employees consent. But according to reports, the ProHance training module was made mandatory, and employees had to click "I Agree" to continue. Many employees even described this as forced consent.

Micro-tracking is becoming common in the industry.
Cognizant isn't alone. Many large IT organizations, including Wipro, are also using similar productivity tools. This type of monitoring has increased rapidly since the adoption of hybrid and work-from-home models in the IT sector.
