Electoral Draft Roll: Is Your Name Missing From the SIR Voter List? Check Easily From Home in Simple Steps
The Election Commission of India has released draft electoral rolls under the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process for select states and Union Territories, triggering concern among voters. According to official data, more than one crore names are missing from the newly published draft lists. If you live in West Bengal, Rajasthan, Goa, Puducherry, or Lakshadweep, it is important to immediately verify whether your name appears in the voter list.
The updated draft electoral rolls were made public on Tuesday as part of a large-scale revision exercise aimed at ensuring accuracy in voter records. While the Election Commission has stated that this is a routine verification process, the sharp drop in the number of registered voters has raised questions and made it essential for citizens to check their voter status.
Over One Crore Names Missing From Draft Voter List
As per Election Commission data, the total number of voters in these states and Union Territories stood at 13.36 crore as of October 27 last year. However, in the newly released draft electoral rolls, the number has declined to 12.32 crore. This means that the names of more than one crore voters are currently not reflected in the draft list.
The Commission has clarified that voters who recently applied for inclusion using Form-6 have already been added to the updated draft. Still, a large number of existing voters may find their names missing due to reasons such as duplication, migration, death records, or incomplete documentation during the verification drive.
Why Checking Your Name Is Crucial
The draft electoral roll is not the final voter list, but it plays a critical role in determining who will be eligible to vote in upcoming elections. If your name does not appear in the draft list and you fail to raise an objection or apply for correction within the given time, you may lose your right to vote.
That is why the Election Commission has urged all eligible voters in the affected regions to verify their details as soon as possible and take corrective steps if required.
How to Check Your Name Using the ECINET App
The easiest way to check your name in the draft voter list is through the Election Commission’s official ECINET mobile application. The process can be completed from home in just a few minutes. Here is a step-by-step guide:
First, download the ECINET app from the Google Play Store or Apple App Store on your smartphone.
Once installed, open the app and select the option that says “Search your name in voter list.”
Next, enter your EPIC number, which is printed on your voter ID card.
After submitting the details, your voter information will appear on the screen if your name is included in the draft list. You can view, download, or share the details for reference.
Alternatively, if you have submitted an SIR form recently, you can scan the QR code on the form using the app to retrieve your voter information instantly.
Checking Your Name Through the Official Website
If you prefer not to use a mobile app, you can also check your voter status through the Election Commission’s official website. By visiting voters.eci.gov.in, you can search for your name using your EPIC number or personal details such as name, date of birth, and constituency.
This option is especially useful for those who do not have access to a smartphone or prefer using a desktop or laptop.
What to Do If Your Name Is Not in the Draft List
If your name does not appear in the draft electoral roll, there is no need to panic. The Election Commission has provided a clear process to address this issue.
You can apply for inclusion by filling out Form-6 and attaching Annexure-IV. These documents must be submitted to your local Booth Level Officer (BLO). In some cases, you may be called for a hearing where you will need to explain why your name was excluded and provide proof of Indian citizenship and voting eligibility.
The Commission will review your application and supporting documents before deciding on inclusion in the final voter list.
Act Within the Given Timeframe
It is important to remember that the draft electoral roll is open for claims and objections only for a limited period. Voters are advised to complete the verification process and submit applications for correction or inclusion well before the deadline announced by the Election Commission.
By checking your name early and taking timely action, you can ensure that your voting rights remain protected. The ongoing Special Intensive Revision exercise is meant to strengthen the electoral system, but its success depends on active participation from voters.
