Do you leave the toaster plugged in? This mistake caused a loss of ₹1.5 crore..
Do you also leave your toaster or oven plugged into the socket after using it in the kitchen? If so, change this habit today. Such negligence could not only reduce your entire home to ashes but also endanger the lives of those living in it. In Maryland, USA, a family's home burned down due to this very oversight. Three of the family's pets perished in the blaze, and property worth approximately ₹1.5 crore was destroyed.
The incident was captured on the home's security camera, revealing how the fire started. Without the CCTV footage, it would have been impossible to realize that leaving a toaster plugged in could lead to such a major disaster. Fortunately, the homeowners were out at the time, and no humans were present—only the pets.
**Dog Accidentally Turns on the Toaster**
The homeowners had left their pets—dogs named Bo, Eddie, and Dakota, along with two cats—at home while they went out. A toaster was sitting on the kitchen counter, already plugged into the wall socket. Bo, one of the dogs, entered the kitchen and jumped onto the counter. His body brushed against the toaster's controls, accidentally turning it on. The toaster heated up rapidly, igniting a nearby object. Within moments, the fire engulfed the entire house.
**Neighbors' Efforts Could Not Save All the Pets**
The fire caused a panic in the neighborhood. About 30 firefighters arrived at the scene and brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes. Acting quickly, neighbors managed to rescue two of the dogs, Bo and Eddie. However, the third dog, Dakota, and the family's two cats perished in the fire. The total loss, including the house and other property, is estimated to exceed ₹1.5 crore.
