As part of the ongoing crackdown on suspicious loan apps, the Ministry of Home Affairs' Indian Cybercrime Coordination Centre (I4C) has directed Google to remove or block three additional apps from the Play Store. According to a Moneycontrol report, the I4C's Threat Analytics Unit identified three "malicious loan apps" that were targeting Android users seeking quick loans.

The agency stated that these apps posed as legitimate lenders, claiming to offer loans with quick approvals and low interest rates. However, after disbursing the loans, they charged borrowers exorbitant interest rates.

The three apps are named Horizon Cash Service, Money Score Monitor, and ZeliCredit. It is also alleged that, upon installation, these apps accessed vast amounts of data stored on users' mobile devices.

In its notice, the I4C stated, "Once downloaded, international criminals gain access to sensitive information such as Personally Identifiable Information (PII)—like Aadhaar card details and financial data—as well as contacts, the photo gallery, the camera, and more."

Google was directed to remove these three URLs or block access to them within three hours of receiving the notice. This directive was issued under Section 79(3)(b) of the Information Technology Act, 2000, and Rule 3(1)(d) of the IT Rules, 2021. The order has been complied with.

This latest action follows a similar notice issued by the I4C on August 7, in which the agency directed Google to remove six other harmful loan apps from the Play Store. In that notice, the I4C had identified LoanOrbit, Hisab, Nexus Loan, One Fund, Credit Factor, and Mobile Credit Prairie. These apps targeted people seeking quick loans, promised low interest rates, and then allegedly demanded exorbitant repayments.
