According to a Kaspersky survey for the Asia-Pacific region, 60% of Indians consider their smartphone to be their most essential device. Few people today carry cash in a wallet instead of using online payment methods. Consequently, the greatest risk involves financial information stored on phones. The survey revealed that 38% of users store banking details on their phones, while 34% keep passwords and login credentials there. Users do this for convenience—ensuring that if they forget a password, the phone can automatically unlock the account, thereby preventing it from getting blocked. The most concerning aspect is that most people save these credentials without using secure methods like password managers, making it easy for hackers to steal them. Furthermore, 48% of people store office emails on their phones, and 27% of users access office systems directly from their mobile devices. Due to these factors, an average of 130,000 cyberattacks were recorded daily in India in 2025, highlighting the rapid escalation of the threat.

A New Threat Emerges from AI Chats: How to Stay Safe?

The issue goes beyond this; recent data reveals a new threat—AI chats. According to reports, 37% of Indians save their AI chat history on their phones. Between January and May 2026, over 92,000 cybercriminals worldwide spread malware by impersonating AI apps such as ChatGPT, Grok, and Gemini. A significant example involves a glitch in an AI app that led to the leak of over 300 million private chats belonging to approximately 25 million users. Given this situation, authorities consistently advise users to remain vigilant.
