ChatGPT’s Parent Company Set to Launch World’s First AI Phone; Processor Details Revealed
Sam Altman’s company, OpenAI, is poised to launch the world’s first AI phone in the near future. Mass production of this device could begin shortly, and details regarding its processor have also surfaced.
OpenAI—the company behind ChatGPT—is preparing to launch the world’s first AI phone soon. Information regarding the phone’s processor has now come to light. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has indicated a strong possibility that OpenAI’s upcoming AI phone will launch in the near future. The device is expected to feature MediaTek’s TSMC N2P chipset. Specifically, the company may utilize a 5G chip from its Dimensity series, built on advanced 2nm processing technology.
Mass Production to Begin Soon
Ming-Chi Kuo shared details regarding OpenAI’s inaugural AI phone on the social media platform X. Kuo claims that mass production of OpenAI’s first AI phone could commence shortly. The company reportedly plans to roll the device out onto production lines as early as the first half of 2027. Information concerning OpenAI’s first AI phone has surfaced previously as well, with earlier reports suggesting that mass production might begin in 2028.

This time around, Kuo asserts that the AI phone will be powered by a MediaTek chipset. This stands in contrast to Kuo’s earlier claims, which had suggested that OpenAI’s first AI phone would utilize a Qualcomm chipset. Production of MediaTek’s 2nm-based Dimensity 9600 chipset is scheduled to begin in the second half of this year. This very processor is likely to be integrated into OpenAI’s first AI phone. The device is expected to feature a dual NPU architecture, equipped with heterogeneous AI processing technology.
Features Revealed
The phone is expected to feature LPDDR6 memory, UFS 5.0 storage, and a Protected Kernel-based Virtual Machine (pKVM), which will significantly enhance the device’s security. Analysts estimate that the production volume for OpenAI’s first AI phone could reach approximately 30 million units between 2027 and 2028. However, the company has not yet officially shared any information regarding its AI phone.
