Meta further states that while a conversation is being processed, neither Meta nor WhatsApp can view its content.

The company notes that the Incognito Chat feature with Meta AI is optional and will become available on both the WhatsApp and Meta AI apps as the rollout expands over the next few months.

Meta also explained that Incognito Chat is powered by its Private Processing system, which is designed to handle AI requests without exposing them to the company itself. Simply put, your messages are processed in a protected environment—separate from Meta's own servers—meaning the company asserts it cannot read what you asked or what the AI ​​responded.

The tech giant also states that this system masks identity-related details, such as your IP address, and retains no record of the conversation once the session ends. Your messages remain encrypted during processing and are automatically deleted the moment the temporary chat is closed.

According to the company, unlike regular AI chats—which can retain conversation history to inform subsequent responses—Incognito Chat starts fresh every time and carries forward no context from previous interactions.

The company also revealed that it is working on "Side Chat" with Meta AI—another feature that will provide private AI assistance directly within an ongoing conversation, ensuring that the content of that chat is not leaked.
