At CES 2026, Wi-Fi 8 was the most talked-about topic. Even though Wi-Fi 7 was officially launched in 2024 and hasn't yet reached every user, several tech companies have already started working on Wi-Fi 8.  Several brands, including Asus, showcased Wi-Fi 8 router concepts at the event. Although it hasn't received official approval yet, the demos and teasers have certainly piqued people's interest.

How different will Wi-Fi 8 be from Wi-Fi 7?
In terms of speed, Wi-Fi 8 will be similar to the existing Wi-Fi 7.  That is, the maximum speed will be approximately the same for both. The real difference will be in power efficiency and connectivity. According to the demos, Wi-Fi 8 will provide a more stable and reliable connection even from a distance. This means that the signal will not weaken even as the distance from the router increases.

Wi-Fi 8 will reduce the risk of signal drops, allowing activities like streaming, online gaming, and video calls to run without interruption. Wi-Fi 7 already offers features like speeds up to 46Gbps, low latency, and multi-link operation. It is believed that Wi-Fi 8 will further enhance all these features. It is expected that this technology will become a part of our homes and offices by 2028.

Which companies are working on Wi-Fi 8?
Asus showcased a Wi-Fi 8 router concept at CES 2026. The company says it will offer speeds similar to Wi-Fi 7, but with higher throughput. This will reduce network congestion and prevent lag during heavy tasks.

In addition, Broadcom also introduced new components related to Wi-Fi 8, which will be used in future residential Wi-Fi 8 routers. Meanwhile, MediaTek has introduced Wi-Fi 8 chips called Filogic 8000. The first device based on these chips is expected to launch later this year.
