Preparations for the 2027 Census have begun. The Central Government has notified the 40 questions to be asked during the enumeration process, including details regarding caste and COVID-19 vaccination status. In snow-bound regions, the house-listing phase will commence before September 1, followed by the population enumeration. Additionally, citizens will have the option of 'self-enumeration'—entering their own details online—between August 17 and August 31. Many are wondering about the self-enumeration process and how to complete it. Here is the full procedure:

What is House Listing?
This census will be conducted in two phases: house listing in the first phase and population enumeration in the second. During house listing, officials will visit homes to gather information and count the houses. This phase focuses on enumerating the housing units. This process can also be completed via the self-enumeration portal.

Through this portal, the head of the family or any member can personally enter details regarding the house and its amenities. Please note that a single mobile number can be used to log in for only one household, and the entry must be made by the head of the family. Also, keep in mind that the name of the head of the family cannot be changed once entered.

What is Self-Enumeration?
Self-enumeration is a special facility. It will be made available 15 days prior to the commencement of the house-listing work in a specific state or union territory. This facility will remain available for a period of 15 days only.

How do I access the Self-Enumeration portal?
First, open the portal at https://se.census.gov.in/.
Then, select your state or union territory.
Next, the head of the family should enter their name and mobile number, and select their preferred language. Then, verify the details using an OTP.
You will then see options to enter the district and a nearby landmark; click on these, and a marker will appear on the map. Use this marker to pinpoint the location of your house. Next, the HLO questionnaire page will open; most questions will have options that you need to fill in.
If any question or detail is missed while entering information on the portal, the system will automatically notify you.

Once all details have been entered, review them and submit the form.
After submission, an 11-digit SC ID will be displayed; you will also receive this via SMS on your mobile phone.
Please share this SC ID with the census enumerator when they visit your home.
