Can the upcoming 'Temple' device even read minds? Deepinder Goyal reveals several secrets..
Deepinder Goyal, CEO of Eternal, has addressed several key questions regarding the company’s new wearable device, 'Temple.' Responding to user inquiries on the social media platform X, he provided details about the device's sensors, design, skin-care considerations, and potential future features. He clarified that Temple does not directly read human thoughts; instead, it utilizes Photoplethysmography (PPG) sensor technology—the same type found in wearable devices like the Apple Watch.
Much of the discussion surrounding Temple has focused on its potential 'thoughts-to-text' capability. However, according to Goyal, this technology is still several years away.
Can be worn with glasses and while sleeping
According to Deepinder Goyal, Temple is designed to be thin enough to be worn underneath eyeglasses—a feature that could prove helpful for those who struggle to use wearables and glasses simultaneously.
He also noted that the device remains securely in place even when a user shifts positions or rests their head on a pillow while sleeping.
Temple features a cashew-like design. Goyal explained that this shape allows the device to appear small on the face while maintaining a sufficient surface area. He jokingly compared its appearance to mitochondria—the structures found within cells. He also described the black-colored variant as highly reflective, with a look and feel reminiscent of metal.
Skin-care considerations when using Temple
The company advises applying Temple’s grips onto completely clean skin. Once the device is in place, users can apply sunscreen, moisturizer, or other skin-care products over it.
Goyal stated that the grips are made from breathable, medical-grade material. He recommends replacing them every two to three days, particularly for individuals who are frequently exposed to dust or sweat.
Will Temple be able to read thoughts?
Goyal clarified that Temple currently utilizes a PPG sensor. This technology is not a system designed to directly read thoughts. He also noted that the device is not considered necessary for individuals under the age of 18, unless they are pursuing specific goals for competitions such as the Olympics.
He further stated that the device contains nothing that could harm a developing brain. However, any broad health-related conclusions regarding its use would require a separate examination of the available scientific evidence.
When will pre-orders for Temple begin?
According to Deepinder Goyal, pre-orders for Temple are set to begin on November 1, 2026. It is expected to be offered in six color options.
Research into a "thoughts-to-text" feature for the device is ongoing, but it may still be several years away. Goyal hinted that this feature could potentially arrive in the third or fourth generation. At present, the company has not officially disclosed the pricing, full sales details, or the complete list of features.
