Now, the caller's name will be displayed along with calls from unknown numbers. This will eliminate the need for third-party apps like Truecaller. Companies have launched this service following a government order.

Reliance Jio, Airtel, and other companies have started the Caller Name Presentation (CNAP) service in several parts of the country. This feature displays the name of the caller even for calls from unknown numbers, making it easier to identify the caller before answering the phone. Until now, this feature required reliance on third-party apps like Truecaller, but now, following orders from the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), telecom companies have started displaying caller names.

ID Name Will Appear on the Screen

The name displayed on the caller screen will be the same name the user provided on their ID when purchasing the mobile number. This will be a default feature, and if a user does not want to use it, they will have to deactivate it. Telecom companies had already conducted trials of this service in Mumbai and Haryana last year. This move by TRAI and the Department of Telecommunications is expected to curb fraudulent calls. Now, users will know before answering the call whether it's a known contact or an unknown person trying to reach them. This will help people avoid falling into the traps of hackers and scammers and stay safe from cybercrime.

Service Currently Available in These Locations

According to media reports, Reliance Jio has launched this service in several states, including Haryana, West Bengal, Rajasthan, Kerala, Bihar, Jharkhand, and Odisha. Similarly, Airtel has launched this service in Jammu and Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, and West Bengal. Vodafone Idea has launched it in some areas of Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. The government-owned company BSNL is currently testing it in West Bengal.
