Bye-Bye Like Button! Facebook's big decision: When will this button disappear?

Social media

Facebook's Like button is recognized on social media because it has left a strong impression on people's minds. But you may be a little shocked to learn that the company has decided to retire the Like button very soon. The Like button will soon disappear from Facebook forever. According to media reports, Meta has announced that the Facebook Like and Comment buttons will be removed from external websites.

When will the Facebook Comment and Like buttons disappear?
Meta has announced that the Facebook Like and Comment buttons will stop appearing on external websites starting February 10, 2026. This means that the Comment and Like buttons will disappear from blogs, shopping portals, and webpages that have embedded Facebook posts.

This decision was made to advance and simplify developer tools. These plugins were introduced almost a decade ago, but times have changed, and their usage has declined, so the company now wants to focus on new ideas. One thing we want to make clear here is that you will continue to see the Like and Comment buttons on the Facebook app and the official Facebook site as before.

Example: Suppose you were reading a blog or news item, you would see a small Facebook Like button with a blue thumb at the bottom. You could like that blog or news item without opening Facebook, simply by pressing the button. After February 10th, the Like and Comment buttons will be removed from any such external site. The removal of the buttons will not cause the site to crash; these buttons will simply disappear, so no errors will appear on any post.
