BSNL's New Year's surprise! Now you can make calls even without a mobile network; the company has launched a free Wi-Fi Calling service..
BSNL New Year Gift: On the very first day of the new year 2026, the government-owned telecom company BSNL has given a big gift to its millions of users. If you are also troubled by weak mobile network signals inside your home or office, then your worries are about to end. BSNL has launched its Voice over Wi-Fi (VoWiFi) service across the country, also known as 'Wi-Fi Calling'. Now you can make calls with crystal-clear voice quality using your Wi-Fi, even without a SIM signal.
What is this service, and how will it benefit you?
Often, mobile network signals are weak in basements, office cabins, or remote areas. In such situations, BSNL customers will now be able to make calls using their home broadband or Wi-Fi. You don't have to pay any extra money for this, nor do you need to download any new app.
Key features of BSNL Wi-Fi Calling:
Calling without network: If your phone doesn't have a network signal but is connected to Wi-Fi, you can still make and receive calls. Completely free: The company will not charge you any extra for this service. Smart switch: If you move out of Wi-Fi range during a call, the call will not drop but will automatically switch to the mobile network. No app required: It will work with your phone's normal dialer.
How to use it?
According to the Ministry of Communications, BSNL's Voice over Wi-Fi service works on almost all new smartphones. Activating it is very easy.
Go to your smartphone's Settings.
Click on SIM/Network Settings.
There you will see the 'Wi-Fi Calling' option, turn it ON.
That's it, your phone is now ready for calling via Wi-Fi.
If you are facing any difficulty in activating it or want to know if your phone supports this service, you can visit any nearest BSNL customer care center. You can also get help by calling BSNL's toll-free helpline number 1800-150-3 from the comfort of your home.
