BSNL Update: Airtel and Jio Look On as BSNL Becomes Number 1 in This Category..
Whenever TRAI data is released, Jio invariably occupies the first spot while Airtel takes the second; however, everyone is now curious to know about this latest list in which the state-run telecom company, BSNL, has surpassed both of these major private players. According to nPerf, an independent network testing firm based in France, the public sector enterprise Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has topped the fixed-line internet segment in the fiscal year 2026 (FY26), outpacing private telecom operators Reliance Jio and Bharti Airtel.
In its recently released results, nPerf stated that BSNL leads India's Fixed-Line Barometer for 2025–2026 with a total score of 89,174 nPoints—a rise from its second-place ranking in the previous year. In the fixed-line internet segment, Airtel and Jio scored 74,975 points and 73,957 points, respectively. nPoints measure the average and real-world quality of internet connections. Ranging from zero to over 50,000, these points consolidate various metrics—including download speed, upload speed, latency, and browsing and streaming performance—into a single comprehensive score.
**BSNL Delivers an Excellent Fixed-Line Experience**
The fixed-line internet download speed of this public sector telecom company surged by 21 percent year-on-year, reaching 78.5 Mbps, while its upload speed stood at 75.26 Mbps—surpassing that of its competitors. BSNL also delivered the best performance in terms of latency, web browsing, and YouTube streaming experiences.
**How Did Airtel and Jio Fare?**
In the fixed-line internet segment, Airtel climbed one spot compared to the previous period, continuing a positive trend observed consistently over the last five years. Its download speed increased by 10 percent year-on-year to reach 62.4 Mbps, while its upload speed remained at 38.71 Mbps. Jio recorded the highest fixed-line internet download speed of 79.6 Mbps, marking a year-over-year increase of 33 percent. However, its upload speed of 33.46 Mbps was slower than that of its competitors, and its latency—at 62.61 ms—was the highest in the pack. Despite this, nPerf noted that Jio's five-year trend continues to be upward.
