**Challan for Caste Stickers: You have undoubtedly come across vehicles on the road bearing caste-specific identifiers—such as 'Gurjar', 'Rajput', 'Jat', 'Yadav', 'Pandit', or similar terms—emblazoned in large letters. Many people view this as a matter of style or a symbol of identity. However, in Bihar, engaging in this practice could now prove costly. The Transport Department has made it clear that any caste-specific words or stickers affixed to vehicles must be removed; failure to do so could result in a traffic challan (fine). In fact, the Bihar government is currently preparing to make its traffic management system more stringent and technology-driven. As part of this initiative, the Transport Department has decided to launch a special drive against vehicles displaying caste-related identifiers.** The department has granted all vehicle owners a one-month grace period to remove such words and stickers from their vehicles.

**Fines Up to ₹2,000**
According to the Transport Department, if any vehicle is found displaying caste-specific words or stickers after the stipulated deadline, action will be initiated under Sections 177 and 179 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988. Violators of this rule may face fines of up to ₹2,000. The department has appealed to the public to remove such words from their vehicles within the given timeframe to avoid facing legal complications later on.

**Surveillance via AI Cameras**
Concurrently, preparations are underway in Bihar to rapidly implement the ITMS—or Intelligent Traffic Management System. Under this system, AI-powered cameras will be installed at 500 to 700 locations across the state; these cameras will be capable of identifying traffic violators and issuing e-challans. These cameras will incorporate advanced technologies such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR), facial recognition, and surveillance capabilities. The government asserts that this initiative will lead to better compliance with traffic regulations, a reduction in road accidents, and easier monitoring of habitual traffic violators.

The Transport Department has directed officials across all districts to identify specific locations that experience high traffic density or where incidents of traffic violations and accidents occur frequently. The government plans to install this system, equipped with AI cameras, on highways, in major cities, at toll plazas, and in highly congested areas to ensure better monitoring of traffic.
