Attention Aadhaar Card Users! The old mAadhaar app is being 'retired'—download this new app..
The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) recently announced that the existing mAadhaar App is set to be discontinued soon. This means that if you are currently using this app, it may soon cease to function on your phone. If you wish to access Aadhaar-related services, you can utilize the new Aadhaar App, which is readily available for download on both the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store.
The primary objective of this app is to assist citizens in securely storing their Aadhaar information, keeping it updated, and sharing it with others. This new app offers features such as QR-based Aadhaar sharing, facial authentication, biometric lock controls, and the ability to share specific details selectively.
**The mAadhaar App is Being Discontinued**
In an official post on X (formerly Twitter), the UIDAI confirmed that the mAadhaar App will soon be discontinued. It further stated that the new Aadhaar App has been designed to deliver a smarter, faster, and more secure digital experience. The new Aadhaar App supports 13 Indian languages, thereby enhancing its accessibility for people across various regions.
**Key Features of the New Aadhaar App**
According to the UIDAI, the new Aadhaar App features support for QR-based Aadhaar sharing and offline identity verification. It enables users to verify their identity without explicitly disclosing their Aadhaar number, thanks to a feature called 'Selective Share.' This allows users to choose exactly which details they wish to share—including their photograph, name, age, gender, mobile number, address, or Aadhaar status.
The app also incorporates biometric locking controls. These can be utilized to lock fingerprint, facial, and iris authentication data, thereby preventing any potential misuse. If required, this lock can subsequently be disabled through the app.
The UIDAI has not yet clarified whether the data currently stored within the old mAadhaar App will be automatically transferred to the new Aadhaar App. Therefore, existing users will have to manually set up their profiles again after downloading the updated application.
