Apple is constantly upgrading not only its iPhones but also its CarPlay platform. Recently, the company released the beta version of iOS 26.4, introducing several new features, including the addition of video playback support for CarPlay.

These details emerged when the company updated its developer documentation. According to new reports, users will now be able to stream video from their iPhones to their car screens. However, for safety reasons, video playback will only work when the car is not moving. This means the feature won't work while driving.

Video will stream to the car's display.
Apple has enabled this feature through AirPlay. Simply put, video won't play directly in CarPlay through a separate app, but will stream from the iPhone to the car's display via AirPlay.

Will it be supported in all vehicles?
Now, many people will have this question: will this feature work in all vehicles? According to the company's developer guide, to take advantage of this feature, vehicle manufacturers must integrate AirPlay video support with CarPlay into their infotainment systems. Therefore, not all existing CarPlay-supported vehicles need to have this feature. Availability may also depend on hardware and software compatibility.

Support for Voice-Based AI Apps
This new iOS 26.4 beta update also brings another significant change. CarPlay now allows for voice-based conversational apps, meaning apps that can operate using voice commands can now be integrated into the CarPlay platform.

Currently, the iOS 26.4 update is available in beta and hasn't been released to general users. However, the company may release it to everyone soon.
