Apple Fitness Study: Do people who wear Apple Watches pay more attention to their health than others? The research reveals this..
Recent data from the Apple Heart and Movement Study reveals that Apple Watch users are more consistent with their fitness routines than the general population. While many people give up on their New Year's resolutions by mid-January, Apple Watch users remain active well into February and March. Building on this success, Apple has announced new multi-week programs, celebrity walking sessions, and a major partnership with Strava under Apple Fitness+ for 2026.
What does the study say?
Physical activity typically decreases during the holiday season in November and December. However, Apple's analysis of four years of data from one million participants shows that Apple Watch users increase their activity by more than 10% in the first two weeks of January. Importantly, 80 percent of users maintained their workout levels even after the second Friday of January.
Furthermore, nearly 90% of users maintained this increased fitness level through the end of February and March. This demonstrates that the psychological effect of closing the Activity Rings works over the long term.
Apple's 2026 Fitness Roadmap
Apple is calling 2026 the "Year of Consistency" and has added new features to support this. Apple says that people often give up because they don't know what to do next. To address this, they have launched phased programs such as Fitness Comeback (for beginners) and a 4-Week Yoga Habit program.
The Artist Spotlight series will now feature workouts based on songs by Karol G, Bad Bunny, and other global stars. To make walking more engaging, motivational stories narrated by celebrities like Penn Badgley and Mel B have been added.
Exciting Gifts for Completing Rings
According to the report, Apple doesn't just show data; it also motivates users through gamification. For example, the Ring in the New Year Award is a digital medal awarded only to those who complete their rings for seven consecutive days in January. Strava and Apple Partnership: For the first time, Apple has partnered with Strava to launch a global challenge. Users who complete 12 workouts in January will be awarded a special badge.
