Anti-Theft Feature: Will your iPhone turn into a 'brick' the moment it falls into the hands of snatchers?

It often happens that we are using our phones while on the go, and suddenly, someone snatches the device right out of our hands and flees. If your phone happens to be unlocked at that moment, a thief can easily gain access to your personal data and even your banking details. To address this very issue, Apple is currently working on a new and intelligent security feature.

**What is this new feature?**
Apple’s new feature is being designed in such a way that if someone snatches an iPhone from your hand, the device will immediately lock itself automatically.

While Apple has recently introduced several excellent anti-theft features—such as 'Find My,' 'Activation Lock,' and 'Stolen Device Protection'—these existing tools are of limited use if a thief snatches your phone while you are actively using it (i.e., while the phone is unlocked). This new feature aims to fill that gap and will function, to a large extent, similarly to Android's theft detection lock.

**How will it detect that the phone has been stolen?**
How will your iPhone recognize that it has been snatched from your hand? To achieve this, Apple will employ several smart methods:

**Sensors (Accelerometer):** The motion sensors embedded within the phone will instantly detect the sudden jerk and abrupt movement associated with the device being snatched from a hand.

**Distance from Apple Watch:** If you use an Apple Watch, the system will trigger a theft alert if the phone suddenly moves away from your proximity.

**Location and Wi-Fi:** This feature will also adhere to the protocols established by 'Stolen Device Protection.' It will verify whether the phone is located in an unfamiliar area—away from any designated "safe locations" or recognized Wi-Fi networks.

**What action will the iPhone take if stolen?**
As soon as the system determines—based on the aforementioned indicators—that the phone has been snatched, it will automatically lock the screen without wasting a single moment. Furthermore, it will immediately block access to all critical and sensitive sections of the device that are safeguarded under 'Stolen Device Protection.' This ensures that the thief will be unable to make any changes to your Apple ID or password.

**When can we expect this feature?** According to a report by the tech website 9to5Mac, code for this feature has been spotted in the testing phase. This makes it clear that Apple is working on it rapidly. Currently, no official information regarding its launch date has been provided; however, it is expected to be rolled out soon alongside a new iOS update.
