Incidents of AC blasts in Delhi are once again becoming a cause for concern. Recently, Dhanendra Kumar—the country's former CCI Chairman and a senior IAS officer—lost his life in a fire caused by an exploding AC unit. Before this, a similar incident in Vivek Vihar claimed the lives of nine people. These accidents have once again raised the question: Can an AC unit truly be this dangerous? According to experts, an AC does not explode; rather, it provides several warning signs beforehand. If these signs are recognized in time, major accidents and the loss of life and property can be averted.

**Emitting Warm Air**
If you have been running your AC for an extended period and it begins blowing warm air instead of cooling the room, it indicates that the unit is overheating or has developed a technical fault. In such a situation, you should immediately switch off the AC and have it inspected by a technician.

**Burning Odor**
If you detect a burning smell—resembling burning plastic or wires—while the AC is running, it is a highly dangerous sign. Such an odor is a direct indication of a short circuit or a fire within the wiring.

**Strange Noises**
If your AC begins emitting strange noises, you should not ignore them. Rattling, grinding, or loud noises coming from the outdoor unit signal a malfunctioning compressor. Under these circumstances, there is a risk of the AC exploding.

**Water Leakage**
If there is excessive water leakage inside or around the AC unit, you should be immediately alerted and have it checked by a technician, as water can seep into the electrical components and cause a short circuit.

**Frequent MCB Tripping**
If your home's main MCB (Miniature Circuit Breaker) trips repeatedly whenever the AC is running, it serves as a warning sign of an electrical overload or a short circuit.

**Safety Tips to Prevent AC Blasts**
**Regular Servicing:** Get your AC serviced at least once a year.

**Set the Temperature:** Operate your AC between 24°C and 25°C; this reduces the load on the compressor. Wiring Inspection—Have the wires and wiring of AC units that are 5–6 years old inspected, as old wiring can burn out.
