The Indian government has issued an alert for Android smartphone users. This alert is categorized as critical. The alert note, issued by the government agency Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In), is CIVN–2026-0016. This bug in Android devices is related to Dolby audio. Due to this bug, hackers can remotely access users' devices by running arbitrary code.

Android Users at Risk
CERT-In has stated in its advisory that this bug has been reported in Google Android. Because of this bug, hackers can execute arbitrary code on the device and hack it. This means that all users of Google Android devices could be at risk from this bug.

The advisory also states that Android is an open-source operating system, primarily designed for smartphones, smartwatches, and other devices. This bug stems from a buffer overflow in Dolby DD+ decoding in Google Android, which can lead to memory corruption and crashes on the device. Hackers can exploit this vulnerability to run arbitrary code and remotely access the device.

What should Android users do?
The government security agency CERT-In has advised Android users to update their devices as soon as possible. Updating to the latest operating system can mitigate the risk. This bug was first reported in October 2025. Google says it has fixed this Dolby bug. The fix was included in the security patch released in January 2026.
