AirDrop Found on This Android Phone; Sharing Files with an iPhone Becomes 'Child's Play'..
Following the Google Pixel 10 series, Xiaomi has now become the latest Android brand to introduce an AirDrop-like feature via Quick Share. The company recently announced that this AirDrop-style functionality is being introduced through Quick Share in the new HyperOS 3 update. This means that users of Xiaomi phones will now be able to rapidly share photos and videos with iPhone users. Currently, this feature will be available on the company's recently launched flagship—the Xiaomi 17T Pro—a fact the company has confirmed in a shared post. It is worth noting that Samsung and Oppo have already enabled AirDrop-style capabilities via Quick Share on their flagship smartphones.
A post was shared from the official Xiaomi HyperOS X account, accompanied by a 15-second video clip. The latest HyperOS 3 update build—based on Android 16—will enable Xiaomi devices to share photos and files with iPhones, iPads, and other devices using this AirDrop-style functionality.
**Video Demonstrates Instant File Transfer**
The video shared alongside the post demonstrates that the Xiaomi 17T Pro has received AirDrop support. As of now, the company has not disclosed exactly when this feature will become available for older Xiaomi smartphones. However, it is expected that the company may soon roll out this feature to other handsets as well. The video clearly illustrates how a photo was transferred from the Xiaomi 17T Pro to an iPhone in just a few seconds.
This latest update simplifies cross-platform sharing (specifically, between the Android and Apple ecosystems). Until last year, this feature was exclusive to Apple devices, and Android users had to rely on third-party apps to perform such tasks. However, with the Pixel 10 series, Samsung, Oppo, and now Xiaomi bringing this feature to Android users, these companies are striving to enhance the user experience.
As a reminder, Samsung introduced an AirDrop-style file-sharing feature to its Galaxy S26 series earlier this year. The Oppo Find X9 series is also the company's first smartphone to receive the AirDrop feature via Quick Share.
