AgriStack: The Government of India has been continuously introducing various reforms to fully digitize the agricultural sector. Digital identities are being issued to millions of farmers. According to data available as of April 2026, approximately 92.5 million (9.25 crore) farmers across the country have already received this digital identity.

The government aims to bring a total of 110 million (11 crore) farmers under this initiative by the year 2026-27. AgriStack is a revolutionary Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) developed by the Government of India to achieve the complete digitization of the agricultural sector. This initiative is set to provide immense assistance to farmers. It serves as a centralized repository where all information related to land, crops, and banking can be accessed in one place.

What is AgriStack?
AgriStack is a revolutionary Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) designed by the Government of India to fully digitize the agricultural sector. Its primary objective is to provide every farmer with a unique digital identity (Farmer ID), thereby enabling them to easily access the benefits of government schemes, credit facilities, and other services.

Digital Farmer ID: A unique ID—linked to Aadhaar—that verifies a farmer's identity and land ownership details.

Transparent Government Services: Delivering benefits such as PM-KISAN, crop insurance, and subsidies for fertilizers and seeds directly into farmers' bank accounts (via Direct Benefit Transfer/DBT), bypassing any intermediaries.

Crop Sowing Register: Maintaining digital records of the crops sown during each agricultural season, thereby facilitating more accurate estimates of agricultural production.

Objectives of AgriStack
The objectives of AgriStack include creating a unique 'Farmer ID' for every farmer—much like the Aadhaar card—that serves to link their land records, crop details, and personal data. The initiative aims to ensure that government subsidies and scheme benefits reach farmers directly, without any delays or instances of corruption. It seeks to provide accurate data regarding soil health, weather conditions, and crop status, thereby empowering farmers to make better-informed decisions regarding their farming practices. Furthermore, through digital profiling, it aims to assist farmers in securing agricultural loans (Agri-credit) from banks both easily and expeditiously.

Finally, it aims to introduce transparency into the agricultural supply chain and, in collaboration with the private sector, foster technological innovations such as Agri-tech applications. To ensure the complete security of farmers' data, it has been placed under the purview of the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023. Obtaining the explicit consent of the farmer is mandatory before sharing their data with any external agency or private company.
