The hassle of waiting in long lines to update your Aadhaar card is about to end. UIDAI (Unique Identification Authority of India) has made a significant decision, announcing that starting in November, most Aadhaar card updates will be possible from home.

A face authentication system will be used, allowing details to be verified from a mobile phone or computer. UIDAI CEO Bhuvnesh Kumar stated that this process will be secure and help prevent identity theft.

However, a visit to an Aadhaar center will still be necessary in some cases. If someone needs to update their photo or make biometric changes, such as fingerprint and iris scan, they will need to visit the center. Other information, such as name, address, and mobile number, can be changed online, subject to biometric verification.

UIDAI has set a goal to expand Aadhaar authentication. Currently, approximately 90 million Aadhaar authentications are being performed daily, with plans to increase this to 200 million. Aadhaar usage will also be expanded for purposes such as purchasing railway tickets. Special camps will be set up in schools to update children's biometrics.

In addition, UIDAI is also deactivating the Aadhaar cards of deceased individuals to prevent misuse. So far, over 12 million Aadhaar cards have been deactivated. This step has been taken to prevent misuse of government benefits and subsidies.

Currently, over 1.42 crore Aadhaar cards have been issued in the country. UIDAI has also clarified that Aadhaar is not proof of citizenship. This is clearly stated in Section 9 of the Aadhaar Act. Companies have also been directed to store Aadhaar data only in India. UIDAI claims that no Aadhaar data leaks have been reported so far and that its data protection law is much stricter than other regulations.
