A very useful update has arrived on UPI; parents, siblings, and friends can also make payments from your account..
BHIM UPI Circle: To make digital payments easy and convenient for everyone, NPCI BHIM has launched a new feature on UPI, "UPI Circle Full Delegation." With this feature, anyone you trust can make payments using your UPI account. This new feature could prove to be a game-changer for Indian families, senior citizens, youth, domestic staff, and small businesses.
What is UPI Circle Full Delegation?
Under UPI Circle Full Delegation, the primary user can authorize UPI payments to a trusted person—such as a spouse, child, parent, staff, or caretaker. Secondary users will not need to link their bank accounts. The primary user can set a monthly limit of up to ₹15,000. This authorization can be valid for a period of 1 month to 5 years.
Your approval will not be required for every transaction, but you will retain complete control and records of all payments. For the first time in the country, a UPI app has provided such a comprehensive and secure delegation system.
Why was this feature launched?
According to Lalita Nataraj, MD & CEO of NBSL, "UPI Circle Full Delegation reflects the true nature of Indian families and small businesses, where trust, responsibility, and security go hand in hand."
This feature aims to make digital payments reliable, secure, family-oriented, and more inclusive.
For whom is this feature especially useful?
1. Senior Citizens
Many elderly people are hesitant to make digital payments. Now, families can enable payments within a set limit for them, eliminating the need to repeatedly call or ask for help. They can make small payments independently.
2. Children and Youth
Parents can give children access to pocket money, school/college payments, online fees, and other items like tiffin, bus passes, and stationery.
3. Small Businesses and Shops
Shopkeepers or small business owners can grant UPI access to staff for fuel, tolls, small and large expenses, and delivery costs, maintaining complete transparency.
4. People unfamiliar with digital platforms
People who find UPI difficult to use can grant limited access to a trusted family member.
How does this feature work?
⦁ The primary user goes to the UPI Circle section in the BHIM app.
⦁ Selects “Invite to Circle”
⦁ Enter the secondary user's number or UPI ID.
⦁ Sets a monthly spending limit (up to ₹15,000)
⦁ Sets a validity period (maximum 5 years)
⦁ Selects a relationship—Child, Spouse, Staff, etc.
⦁ Identity is verified with Aadhaar or available documents.
⦁ Permission is activated by entering the UPI PIN.
⦁ The secondary user accepts the request.
⦁ After a short cooling period, the payment can be initiated.
⦁ This way, the secondary user can make UPI payments to the primary account without linking a bank account.
