The free Perplexity Pro AI offer for Airtel users is no longer the same. If you availed the 12-month free trial of Perplexity Pro through Airtel, you will now need to add a debit or credit card to continue using it. Recently, many users received an email from Perplexity stating that they need to update their payment details in their account if they wish to continue the free trial.

Perplexity and Airtel had launched this offer together in July. At that time, it was clearly stated that users would not need to add any payment method. Airtel prepaid, postpaid, broadband, and DTH users could access Perplexity Pro for free using their mobile number and email ID. However, the company has now suddenly changed the rules.

Perplexity claims this change is to "prevent misuse of the free offer." According to the company, some people were creating multiple free accounts fraudulently. Therefore, all users are now being asked to add a valid payment card. However, the company also states that no money will be deducted from your card before the trial ends. If you do not wish to continue the subscription after the trial ends, you can disable auto-pay.

Nevertheless, many users are unhappy with this change. They argue that changing the terms and conditions midway is unfair, especially since the offer was initially presented without any conditions. Some are also concerned about their privacy, as adding card details gives the company more information. This is why many users are deciding to end their free trial immediately.

If you wish to continue the free trial, the process is simple. Click on the "Update card information" button in the email from Perplexity, enter your debit or credit card details, and update them. After that, you will be able to use Perplexity Pro as before.

The Perplexity Pro offer includes features like GPT-4.1, Gemini, and Claude AI models, unlimited searches, document analysis, and AI image generation, which are reportedly worth around ₹17,000. However, after this new change, many users may switch to other free AI options like Google Gemini and ChatGPT.
