4 new features arrive for WhatsApp group chats; messages can now be pinned permanently..
WhatsApp recently introduced a 'Guest Calls' feature, which allows users to include individuals who do not have a WhatsApp account in calls. Now, the Meta-owned instant messaging service has announced the rollout of four new features and updates for WhatsApp Group Chats. The company states that these additions make it easier for new group members to join ongoing conversations and for existing users to pick up right where they left off. The platform now allows for the sharing of message history with new members after they join a group. Furthermore, users can now pin messages in group chats for extended periods.
New Group Chat Features on WhatsApp
In a blog post on Thursday, the platform announced four new features for WhatsApp Group Chats, designed to help users catch up on conversations from the point where they last left off. Under this update, users will be able to pin important messages permanently. Currently, WhatsApp allows users to pin up to four messages in a group chat for durations of 24 hours, seven days, or 30 days.
With this new addition, users will be able to pin messages in WhatsApp Group Chats 'forever.' Additionally, WhatsApp has introduced the ability to share message history with new members after they join a group. Group admins and managers can share recent messages by tapping on the name of a member who has recently joined the group. The company has assured that these messages will remain end-to-end encrypted.
Previously, WhatsApp only allowed group admins to share message history with new members at the time of adding them to the group. With the introduction of this new feature, users will be able to share their chat history even with members they may have initially forgotten to include. Additionally, users can now filter messages in group chats based on mentions. When this filter is applied, the chat window will highlight all messages in which the user has been tagged.
Finally, the platform will also allow users to share a 'group status' with other members of a group. These group statuses will be visible only within the specific group chats for which they were posted. The group status feature will function similarly to the standard status updates, where photos and videos disappear after 24 hours. These group statuses will also vanish after 24 hours. Furthermore, other group members will be able to react to these statuses and add their own.
