The starting basic salary of an officer is ₹56,100 per month. This salary is set under the 7th Central Pay Commission. Initially, officers are appointed to the position of Deputy Superintendent of Police or Assistant Commissioner of Police. However, ₹56,100 is only the basic pay. In addition, officers also receive dearness allowance (DA), house rent allowance (HRA), travel allowance, and other perks, making their total in-hand salary significantly higher.

How much does their salary increase after promotion?

As an officer in the Indian Police Service gains experience and promotion, their salary also increases. According to the 7th Pay Commission, a DSP initially earns a salary of approximately ₹56,100 per month, which increases to approximately ₹67,700 upon promotion to Additional Superintendent of Police (SP) and ₹78,800 upon promotion to Superintendent of Police (SP). Subsequently, a DIG earns approximately ₹131,000, an IG receives ₹144,200, an ADG receives ₹205,000, and the highest rank, DGP, receives approximately ₹225,000 per month. This means that with promotion, an IPS officer's earnings can reach over two lakh rupees.

Officers receive not only a salary but also several important government benefits, making this job highly attractive.
