West Bengal Teacher Recruitment: The West Bengal School Service Commission (WBSSC) has released the final merit list for the recruitment of assistant teachers following the order of the Calcutta High Court. The list includes shortlisted candidates, the counselling process is expected to begin around the first week of October 2024.

Candidates who appeared for the State Level Selection Test (SLST) in 2016 are awaiting final appointments due to several legal challenges that led the High Court to quash the previous selection process. The list includes over 14,000 shortlisted candidates.

Of the 14,052 candidates eligible for the merit list, around 9,000 have been placed in the main panel, and the rest have been placed on the waiting list. The list is available on the WBSSC website. It excludes those with irregularities in compliance with the court order. Additionally, around 100 candidates were excluded due to problems with their documents.

The West Bengal teacher recruitment process has been facing delays since 2014 when the notification for the Upper Primary Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) was first released.

Several legal hurdles and challenges arose over alleged irregularities, which eventually led to fresh directions from the high court, which now paved the way for the final counseling process.
