The Railways has issued notifications for recruitment to over 100,000 posts in 2024 and 2025. According to the Railway Minister, such a large recruitment drive has never been undertaken before.
The Indian Railways has provided a significant opportunity for young people this time. For millions of candidates across the country who have been waiting for railway jobs, the biggest news of the year has arrived. The Railways has begun the recruitment process for a total of 120,579 posts for 2024 and 2025. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav announced this recruitment drive in Parliament during the winter session, stating that such a massive campaign has never been conducted before.
The Railways have always been a priority for young people, and this time, by simultaneously releasing such a large number of posts, the Railways has further raised the expectations of candidates. The Railway Minister stated that the recruitment process for both years has been expedited and notifications have been issued.
According to the Railway Ministry, the Railways issued 10 major notifications for 2024, with recruitment underway for 91,116 positions. Seven notifications have been issued for 2025, covering 38,463 positions. The combined recruitment for both years reaches 120,579 positions, meaning over 1.2 lakh jobs are currently available.
Ongoing Recruitment for These Posts
Now, let's discuss the positions currently being recruited. This year, the Railways has vacancies in almost every field. These include Assistant Loco Pilots (ALPs), Technicians, Sub-Inspectors and Constables in the RPF, Junior Engineers, Depot Material Superintendents, Chemical and Metallurgical Assistants, Paramedical Staff, various categories of NTPC, Ministerial and Isolated Categories, and Level-1 positions such as Track Maintainers and Assistants.
These include both technical and non-technical jobs, and this is considered a golden opportunity for millions of candidates. Significantly, the Railways has also clarified that a recruitment calendar has been released this year to ensure a more transparent and timely process. This will also make it easier for candidates to prepare.
Only this many recruitments from 2004 to 2014
The Railway Minister made another important point in Parliament. He stated that between 2004 and 2014, the Railways employed approximately 400,000 people, while between 2014 and 2025, this number increased to 508,000. This means that the Railways has recruited more people in the last ten years than ever before. The Minister stated that the government's goal is to fill all vacant positions quickly, ensuring smooth functioning and providing employment to young people.
