UP Teacher Recruitment: There is a major update for candidates preparing to become teachers in Uttar Pradesh. The rules for the recruitment of Trained Graduate Teachers (TGT) in recognized and government-aided schools in UP have been amended. In this regard, the UP government has sent a letter to the Secretary of the UP Education Service Selection Commission (UPESSC), informing them of the decision to implement the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) requirement for TGT recruitment in aided schools. This means that only candidates who have passed the Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) will now be eligible to apply for TGT positions in these schools. However, an exemption has been granted until June 30, 2027; by this date, candidates must possess a valid TET certificate.

Let us examine the matter in detail. We will look at the previous rules for TGT recruitment in aided schools and the number of TGT posts proposed for recruitment in these institutions.

TET Made Mandatory for the First Time
Previously, candidates who had not passed the TET were also permitted to apply for TGT positions in recognized and government-aided schools in UP. Applicants could qualify based on other criteria, such as holding a B.Ed. degree. Now, however, the TET has been made a mandatory requirement for TGT recruitment in these aided schools—a change being introduced.

Revised Rules Issued for TGT Recruitment in Aided Schools
The Secondary Education Department has released revised rules for TGT recruitment in aided schools, which now include the TET qualification requirement. The official notification for TGT recruitment in these schools will be issued in accordance with these revised rules.

Who is eligible to apply now?
According to the revised regulations, candidates eligible to apply for TGT (Trained Graduate Teacher) recruitment in aided schools must possess a bachelor’s degree in the relevant subject with at least 50% marks, or a master’s degree with at least 45% marks. Additionally, they must hold a B.Ed. degree from an institution recognized by the NCTE (National Council for Teacher Education) and have qualified for the TET (Teacher Eligibility Test) or CTET (Central Teacher Eligibility Test) conducted by the state or central government.

Exemption until June 30, 2027; TET to be held soon
Qualifying for the TET has been made mandatory for TGT recruitment in aided schools. In light of this, an exemption has been granted to candidates, valid until June 30, 2027. Candidates are required to obtain a valid certificate by this date. The commission has clarified that candidates will be able to avail of this exemption if the recruitment process takes place during this period. However, if a candidate who has not yet qualified for the TET is selected, the issuance of their appointment letter will be subject to document verification. Furthermore, the commission has indicated that a new TET will be conducted soon.

TGT recruitment in aided schools coming soon
TGT recruitment is proposed for aided schools in Uttar Pradesh. It is expected that the UPESSC (Uttar Pradesh Education Services Selection Commission) may soon issue a notification for TGT recruitment in these schools. While the exact number of vacancies has not yet been disclosed, it is anticipated that more than 15,000 positions will be filled.
