CM Mohan Charan Majhi said on Thursday that the Odisha government will appoint more than 44,000 teachers in primary schools in the next three years. He said that about 40,000 new posts will be created during this period.
CM Majhi said that this decision has been taken keeping in mind the government's efforts to increase the quality of primary education in the state. He informed that the state government has also decided to regularize the services of teachers working on an ad hoc basis in primary schools under various schemes.

A release issued by the Chief Minister's Office said that the Chief Minister has directed the filling 44,433 posts of teachers in the next three years. About 15,000 primary teacher posts will be filled every year.

Apart from promoting the recruitment of teachers, CM Majhi directed the officials to extend the state's free textbook scheme to students up to class 9th and 10th. Currently, free textbooks are provided only to children from classes 1 to 8th. The release said that the Chief Minister has also directed the officials to appoint Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) to provide better health support to the students living in hostels.

The special Odisha Teacher Eligibility Test (OTET) to be held on August 31 has been postponed again due to some unavoidable reasons. The Board of Secondary Education has also issued a notification in this regard. The board said that the new date of the exam will be announced soon. Earlier, this exam was to be held on July 20, but was postponed on July 19 due to the question paper going viral on Facebook and other social media platforms. The viral paper was an actual replica of the question set prepared by BSE.
