SSC Announces Vacancies for Stenographer Posts: Here is How to Apply

For young aspirants preparing for central government jobs, the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the official notification for the Stenographer Recruitment 2026. Through this recruitment drive, appointments will be made for a total of 731 posts across Grade ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’ categories. A key highlight is that candidates who have passed the 12th grade are also eligible to apply for these positions, thereby providing an opportunity to a large number of applicants.

Important Dates for Stenographer Posts

The application process for this recruitment began on April 24, 2026. Candidates may submit their online applications up until May 15, 2026. The final date for depositing the application fee is May 16, 2026. Furthermore, a correction window for making amendments to the application form will be open on May 20 and 21. The examination is tentatively scheduled to be conducted between July and August 2026.

Number of Vacancies and Eligibility Criteria

Under this recruitment drive, the SSC aims to fill a total of 731 vacancies. These appointments will be made across various ministries, departments, and organizations of the Central Government. The detailed classification of the posts will be released by the Commission. Candidates applying for these positions are required to have passed the 12th grade (Intermediate) from a recognized educational board. Additionally, candidates must possess knowledge of stenography. Regarding the age limit, the criteria have been set at 18 to 27 years for Grade ‘D’ posts and 18 to 30 years for Grade ‘C’ posts. The age will be calculated as of August 1, 2026. General, OBC, and EWS candidates are required to pay an application fee of ₹100 for this recruitment process. Conversely, the application is free of cost for SC, ST, PwBD, and female candidates. This recruitment process will be conducted in two stages. First, candidates must appear for a Computer-Based Examination; successful candidates will then be called for a Skill Test, which will be based on stenography. This will be followed by document verification.
