SSC News Update: After the protests by students regarding SSC recruitment examinations, efforts have started to improve the exam. The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has taken several corrective measures to make its recruitment process faster and efficient, including reducing the period of issuing the examination notification from about 45 days to 21 days. This information was given to the Rajya Sabha on Thursday. Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said in a written reply to a question that due to the collective effect of these measures, the duration of the recruitment process of various examinations conducted by the Commission has now come down from 15 to 18 months to 6 to 10 months.

Exam time has been reduced.
He said that SSC has made several major reforms, like changing from pen-and-paper-based examination to a completely computer-based examination system, reducing the number of examinations, and reducing the duration of examination notification. The minister said that apart from this, the Commission has taken steps like the removal of descriptive question papers (except for the Joint Hindi Translator Exam), handing over the work of document verification to the concerned ministries/departments, abolition of interviews, and introduction of the e-dossier system, which has accelerated the process of pre-appointment verification.

Improvements have been made in these exams

In another reply, Singh said that SSC has developed an online centralized e-dossier system, which is capable of handling the documents of the candidates in a secure, tamper-proof, and transparent manner. He said that this system has been successfully implemented in many major computer-based examinations, including the Combined Graduate Level Examination 2024, the Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination 2024, Junior Engineer Exam 2024, and Multi-tasking (non-technical) Staff and Havildar Examination 2024 (CBIC and CBN).

Talking about promoting regional languages, the minister said that from 2022, SSC will conduct three all-India competitive examinations - Multi-Tasking Staff Examination (Non-Technical), Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination (CBIC and CBN) and Constable (GD) Examination in 13 regional languages as well as Hindi and English. In the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) Civil Services (Mains) exam, candidates are allowed to write answers in any of the 22 languages listed in the 8th Schedule of the Constitution, except for language and literature papers. Besides, the Institute of Banking Personnel Selection (IBPS) and Railway Recruitment Boards (RRBs) also conduct examinations in 13 regional languages as well as Hindi and English, Singh said.
