Recruitments will be done soon on non-general duty posts in the CRPF and the Assam Rifles. Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai told the Rajya Sabha that instructions have been given to fill these vacant posts as soon as possible. He told the Rajya Sabha that as of January 1, 1.09 lakh posts were vacant in the Central Armed Police Forces and Assam Rifles, out of which the recruitment process is going on for 72,689 posts. The minister told this in response to a written question. He also provided data on the sanctioned number, actual number, and vacant posts in the central paramilitary forces. The data showed that the sanctioned number in these forces has increased from 10,04,980 in 2021 to 10,67,110 in 2025.

As of January 1, 109,868 posts were vacant in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF). Currently, 72,689 vacancies have been announced for various posts, for which the recruitment process is going on. The Minister of State for Home said that vacancies in CAPFs and AR arise due to retirement, resignation, promotion, death, new establishment of battalions, creation of new posts, etc. He said that filling vacant posts is a continuous process.

He informed that active work is being done to fill the vacancies expeditiously through UPSC, SSC and the concerned commission. As an example of these efforts, he mentioned a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) to expedite recruitment to the post of Constable (General Duty).

He informed that all Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles have been directed to make prompt appointments to the vacancies in non-general duty roles. Rai informed that to expedite the recruitment process, the ministry has implemented several measures, including holding timely meetings of the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC) to remove promotion vacancies, reducing the time required for medical examinations and reducing the cut-off marks for shortlisting of candidates for Constable and General Duty posts.
