Sarkari Naukri 2024: Complete the police verification of selected candidates in 6 months, SC directs all states..

Police verification of candidates selected for government jobs will now have to be completed within 6 months. Action can also be taken against the concerned police employees and officers who do not do the verification within the stipulated time limit. The Supreme Court has issued instructions to all the states in this regard. The court issued this instruction while hearing a petition.
The Supreme Court said that the police verification report of the candidates selected for government service appointments will have to be submitted within the required time limit. Police officers have also been warned about failing to do so, due to which the regularization of the candidates is getting affected.
A bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice R Mahadevan issued a direction to the police officers of all the states to complete the investigation and file a report regarding the character, antecedents, nationality, and authenticity of the documents submitted.
The bench said that the candidates selected for appointment in government service etc. should do it within the prescribed time limit provided in the law or government order or any case within six months from the date of their appointment.
Appointments will be made after verification.
A bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice R Mahadevan issued the direction that the appointments of the candidates will be regularized only after the verification process is completed so that further complications can be avoided. The court issued this order while deciding on a petition filed by Para Medical Ophthalmic Assistant in the Government of West Bengal, challenging the High Court's decision to overturn the order of the State Administrative Tribunal, which had canceled the termination of the petitioner's service.
What was the matter?
The petitioner joined the government job in 1985, claiming to be an Indian citizen based on the migration certificate issued to his father. The police verification report regarding his suitability to join the service should have been submitted within three months from the date of appointment. However, he was dismissed from service in 2011 based on the police verification report, which was submitted in 2010, without allowing him to be heard before the termination of service, i.e. after an excessive delay of about 25 years.
