The Rourkela Steel Plant of the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) has issued a notification for a one-year apprenticeship training program for the year 2026-27. A total of 1,110 eligible candidates will be selected under this recruitment drive. Notably, there will be no written examination; candidates will be selected based on merit and a walk-in process. **Which positions are being filled?**
The recruitment includes 421 Trade Apprentice, 414 Diploma Apprentice, and 275 Graduate Apprentice positions. For Trade Apprentices, passing the ITI course in the relevant trade is mandatory. For Diploma Apprentices, a diploma in relevant fields—such as Engineering, GNM, D.Pharma, or Radiology—is required.
**Who can apply?**
For Graduate Apprentice positions, in addition to Engineering graduates, holders of degrees such as BA, BSc, BCom, BBA, BCA, and BSc Nursing can also apply. Candidates must have obtained their qualification as regular students between the years 2022 and 2026.
**Age limit and stipend**
Applicants must be between 18 and 28 years of age. The age calculation will be based on August 31, 2026. Selected Trade Apprentices will receive a monthly stipend of approximately ₹9,600 to ₹10,560; Diploma Apprentices will receive ₹10,900; and Graduate Apprentices will receive ₹12,300.
**How to apply?**
Candidates must first register on the relevant apprenticeship portal. Candidates who have passed ITI can apply by registering on the Apprenticeship India portal, while diploma or degree holders can apply after registering on the NATS portal; in both cases, they must select “STEEL AUTHORITY OF INDIA LIMITED, ROURKELA STEEL PLANT.” The deadline for online applications is set for August 26, 2026. Subsequently, shortlisted candidates will be called for a walk-in process in September 2026 based on the merit list.
