Under the RRB JE Recruitment 2026, a total of 3,993 posts for Junior Engineer and Depot Material Superintendent in the Railways will be filled. What is the Required Age Limit?
The minimum age for RRB JE and DMS recruitment is set at 18 years, and the maximum age at 33 years. Candidates from Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST) will be granted a five-year relaxation in the upper age limit, while candidates from the OBC-NCL category will receive a three-year relaxation.

The Railway Recruitment Board has announced a total of 3,993 vacancies across various RRB zones. Kolkata has the highest number of vacancies at 457, followed by Mumbai (411), Chennai (362), and Prayagraj (340). There are 329 vacancies in Guwahati, 298 in Bengaluru, 252 in Ajmer, and 198 in Gorakhpur. Chandigarh has 183 vacancies, and Jammu-Srinagar has 152. Additionally, there are 143 vacancies in Ahmedabad, 124 in Bilaspur, 122 in Ranchi, 113 in Bhopal, and 110 in Secunderabad. There are 101 vacancies in Thiruvananthapuram, 92 in Siliguri, and 86 in Bhubaneswar. The Patna RRB has 73 vacancies, Malda has 30, and Muzaffarpur has 17. Across all these zones combined, there are a total of 3,993 vacancies.
**CBT-1 will be a screening test only**
The selection process for the RRB JE recruitment will be conducted in multiple stages. First, candidates must appear for a Computer-Based Test, known as CBT-1. This exam is primarily for screening purposes; the marks obtained will not be included in the final selection or the preparation of the final merit list. CBT-1 will consist of 100 multiple-choice questions, and candidates will have 90 minutes to complete the exam. Differently-abled candidates availing the facility of a scribe will be allotted 120 minutes. The exam will include 30 questions on Mathematics, 25 on General Intelligence and Reasoning, 15 on General Awareness, and 30 on General Science (based on the CBSE Class 10 syllabus). The General Science section will cover Physics, Chemistry, and Life Sciences.
**Marks deducted for incorrect answers**
Negative marking will apply to CBT-1. One-third (1/3) of the marks allotted to a question will be deducted for every incorrect answer; therefore, candidates must exercise caution while answering questions. Minimum qualifying marks have also been prescribed for CBT-1.
