Recruitment for 50 Junior Research Fellow Posts at IGCAR; Apply by July 13

The Indira Gandhi Centre for Atomic Research (IGCAR), Kalpakkam, has invited applications for 50 Junior Research Fellow (JRF) positions. This recruitment drive is open to candidates specializing in Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, Radiation Physics, and various engineering disciplines.
Only Indian citizens are eligible to apply for this recruitment. The online application process began on June 22, 2026, and interested candidates can apply until July 13, 2026. Applications must be submitted online via the official IGCAR website.
Who can apply?
Educational qualifications have been specified according to the different disciplines. For positions related to Physics, Chemistry, Materials Science, and Radiation Physics, candidates must hold an M.Sc. or Integrated M.Sc. degree in the relevant subject. For certain posts, having studied Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics at the B.Sc. level is also mandatory.
For engineering-related positions, candidates must possess a B.E., B.Tech., M.E., or M.Tech. degree in the relevant branch. A valid GATE score is mandatory for applying to some posts, while in certain categories, candidates scoring above the GATE cut-off may be called directly for an interview.
Age Limit
The maximum age limit for applicants is set at 28 years. However, candidates belonging to reserved categories will be granted age relaxation in accordance with government regulations.
What is the stipend?
Selected candidates will be admitted to the Ph.D. program at the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI). During their research work, they will receive a monthly fellowship ranging from ₹25,000 to ₹42,000. This enables candidates to receive financial support alongside engaging in high-level scientific research.
Required Documents
At the time of application, candidates must keep the following documents ready: proof of date of birth; all academic certificates and mark sheets (starting from Class 10); experience certificates (if applicable); caste certificates; disability certificates; NOC; and scorecards for GATE, UGC-CSIR NET, or JEST. Original copies and self-attested photocopies of these documents will also be required.
